This course provides a structured refresher for experienced personnel involved in oil-in-water sampling and analysis in the UK offshore environment. It covers representative sampling, sample preparation, infra-red analysis, calibration and validation, interpretation and reporting, together with the regulatory and laboratory principles that underpin reliable oil-in-water measurement.

Learning objectives
- Apply correct representative sampling and sample-preparation procedures for oil-in-water analysis
- Carry out and interpret infra-red oil-in-water analysis, including calibration and validation requirements
- Apply relevant UK offshore regulatory, laboratory and reporting requirements, including OPRED/EEMS expectations
- Recognise common sources of error and take appropriate action to support reliable, defensible oil-in-water results
Before you begin
Entry requirements
- Prior certification in Oil in Water (OIW) analysis, Infrared (IR) spectroscopy within an Oil and Gas environment, or verifiable field experience
